Abilities:
Kai isn't able to do much normally. His can run faster than most people and he knows basic kung fu, but other than that he has no supernatural abilities. However, he does excel in being a great cook. Kai knows many recipes and can make a great meal on the spot.
His other side awakens whenever Kai is unconscious. When this happens, Kai turns into an assassin. He becomes skilled with using throwing knives and daggers.
Kai also becomes able to turn himself and anything he touches (that's not alive) into a mist so thin that most people can not see it. In this form he can move around his surroundings quickly and silently. However, he can't physically harm anyone until he becomes solid again.
Personal Items:
Kai does not have much so he tends to mooch off of other people. His only belongings are a bowl, a fork, and two knives. He carries these in a bag slung over his shoulder.

Personality:
When normal he will approach people whenever they look bored. Kai loves making jokes and keeping people entertained but sometimes he is too lazy to even move. He has a lot of patience and will wait for someone even if they take hours to get there, though he'll remember what happened later when he's asking for food or money. When Kai is not falling asleep he is attentive and quickly responsive. He is also very curious, if anyone mentions a rumor he perks up and tries to learn more. His actions sometimes give him the reputation of being somewhat of a gossip.
However, though he likes getting to know people, he has a hard time trusting them. As a result, he's pressured to act cautious even around friends. While being a gossip, Kai keeps his secrets to himself and only reveals them to people who are very close to him. He likes getting along with everyone but he's always careful of someone betraying him.
He's also scared of girls and anything that vaguely resembles one. Kai will avoid contact as fast as possible from any girl within eyesight and find an excuse to leave when they approach. It's not because he thinks all girls are evil though; he's just really shy.
His other side has a much different personality. He ignores everyone around him unless they seem to be extremely close friends. Even then he becomes very cold. Kai's other side is much calmer and a lot harder to provoke. When provoked however, he is merciless. A fight will not end until either he knows that he can't win or his enemy becomes motionless.
Background/History:
Kai was born in a small town in the middle of an island.
As a child Kai began developing a split personality. No one could figure out why. One moment he would be crying and the next moment there would be silence. His family, consisting of his father and his brother, cared for him until he was 12 years old. They sent him to several psychiatrists but nothing seemed to cure him. In the end they declared that Kai had wide mood swings and gave him ineffective medication. Kai's mother died when he was less than a year old. He never found out what happened. On his 12th birthday his family vanished. At first he thought it was a friendly game of hide-and-seek but after a few days went by he realized that they weren't coming back.
Kai then went out and began his mooching spree by asking a nearby shop for money. The owners were very sympathetic and convinced the owner of a restaurant to hire the child as a busboy. The owner would end up taking care of him for the next 5 years. He was a caring and diligent father figure but not very rich. As a consequence Kai had to be home schooled. After the first few years the owner decided that Kai was old enough to cook and began teaching him cooking recipes. In only a few months Kai was already one of the restaurant's top chefs. Unfortunately for him, the staff was filled with guys from the owner's family who needed employment. Even more, his family had only guys and they had restricted him from meeting other people due to a fear that his mood swings would cause him to become an outcast and ruin the restaurant's reputation. The result later became an overwhelming fear of girls. They were strange people to him; humans who put on floury substances and looked completely different compared to himself and everyone he knew.
During this entire time his personality switches slowly became less frequent. Eventually it reached the point where it only happened when Kai became unconscious. Since the two have no memory of the others' actions, Kai never found out that he had another side to him. Even more, his mind only actually begins resting when both sides go to sleep, which meant that he would get a few hours of sleep most nights. His other side kept himself from conversing with anyone. He didn't like to talk with people. To him there was no reason to. His only entertainment was throwing kitchen knives at a target, the result being the chefs complaining of dented utensils. No one suspected Kai because they didn't think he would do it for no reason.
Eventually the owner of the restaurant decided that it was time for Kai to get to know the world outside of the tiny town that he was born in. He gave Kai several wads of bills and spent the next few weeks teaching him how to survive. On the day of his departure, Kai waved goodbye to everyone he knew. The owner gave him a bag full of kitchen utensils as a souvenir. Kai was sad but also excited about visiting other places.
Unfortunately, he wasn't as effective as learning the lessons about the outside world as he was about cooking and soon spent all his money on the first thing he saw: 10,000 packs of playing cards. The shop owner was so impressed he gave him a free cart as a thank-you gift. For his next few weeks Kai traveled the island, lugging his cart and asking for food whenever he could. During his travels he began to hear about a place called Kironin Central. It was a place full of wonders and dreams. Everyone who went there supposedly became famous and successful. What's more, he even heard that it was an all-boys school. Perfect. Kai quickly found the destination and built a raft made out of playing cards and tape (also begged for) and set off for Kironin Central.
Desires: Throughout Kai's entire life, money has been of huge importance. Without it there would be no way he could have ever survived. As a result he feels great gratitude towards the owner of the restaurant and wants to help him by sending him money.
