Name: Mist (Birth name, unknown)
Age: 112
Category: Wanderer
Height: 4'11"
Abilities: Mist is an avatar of nature and is surrounded by a light mist at all times, earning her her name. She can control the moisture in the air to create fog or very light rain within a half a mile radius. She can even alter the temperature or composition of the moisture to defend herself if necessary. She can burn the skin of her attacker or cause droplets to freeze upon contact with her target.
This ability also has a more practical use too. Though it is not perfect, she can use the rain as an echo location to find moving objects (Such as a person or animal) or structures in the area. She seems to disappear into her fog and move faster then the eye can see. As though the moisture is providing a means of travel. She can double her running speed doing this, but she cannot keep it up for long.
Aside from her signature abilities. She has an affinity for plants, she can speed their growth thanks to her ability to control moisture. She can provide plants with water and nutrients with the flick of her wrist. Recently dead plants can be rejuvenated by Mist with a few days of care.
She stills holds various spells and abilities from her days traveling with her companions. Small spells, such as changing the colours or appearances of objects to more powerful battle-ready fire balls.
Furthermore, Mist has taken up creating herbal medicines as a hobby. She grows her herbs and uses them to create anything from relief for a sore throat to antidotes for poisons. She has a terrifying understanding of poisons and how they work largely because poison is primarily made from plants. And while she keeps poison on her, it is primarily just for show to ward off potential trouble.
Personal Items: Mist carries a light wooden staff silver-grey in colour. It is thin, but taller than her - nearly six feet in length. The tip is elegantly carved with a long tip (resembling the point on a spear) and two bent tips framing the center tip. As the center tip reaches the shaft, it splits and forms an opening leading to the shaft. Attached to the sides, there rests a silver gem. Perhaps it is moonstone? Perhaps it is a cloudy diamond? It could even be a quartz. Within the stone, a careful eye can detect movement. As though there is mist within the stone itself. The stone and its internal mist changes depending on Mist's mood. And with its changes, the mist surrounding her. The more negative her mood, the darker, cloudier and more turbulent the stone. And with it, the thicker and more foreboding the mist. A positive mood with produce a light and clear stone and the mist surrounding her becomes almost unnoticeable. She is never without her staff, but she has no qualms with setting it down to use both hands.
She wears very light -seemingly leather or hide type- armor, also grey in colour that is enchanted to be harder than it looks or moves (Similar to the Ironwood spell found in 3.5 Dungeons and Dragons). Again though, it is there to ward off potential threats and of course attackers.
As I mentioned earlier, she does carry poisons with her. Only three, ranging in effects, but not designed to kill. One is a powerful sleep powder that can be thrown at the face and breathed in or mixed with a drink. It will knock its victim out for three to five hours depending on the person. Her second poison causes temporary paralysis. This lasts about and hour, and she can be lift it into the air in particle form using her precise control of moisture. Her final poison merely makes her target violently sick for a couple of days. However, the effects are immediate. This she can use in any of the aforementioned methods.
In addition to poisons, she also carries an assortment of medicines with her (Including the antidotes to the poisons she carries). This stock tends to change daily, but she will usually have anywhere from five to ten medicines on her at any given time.
Physical Description:
Mist is an elf, albeit, a short one. She is about 4'11" and still managed to hold an air of grace about her. Her long wavy hair, once vibrant in colour, has turned silver with tints of blue running through it. It falls freely, and even obscures her face at times. Her eyes are golden and travelers lost in fog swear they can see golden eyes watching them through the mist. Her skin is a pale pink. Her tunic is light grey and sleeveless. The hem of her mini-skirt skirt fades to a muted blue -reminiscent of her previous travels. She wears thigh-high cloth boots and full armbands that are the same colour as her tunic. The boots are tied off with leather like straps pinned with a silver emblem. Sitting over her skirt but under the tunic sits a long flowing wrap-around silver skirt. It shines in the light dancing rainbows all around her. She wears a thick grey belt, much too large for her, wrapped around her waist. She wears grey chest armor covering the defending side of her chest (Her left), but leaving her attacking side open to prevent movement restriction. She sports tall shoulder pads attached to her arms (And not the armor) also in grey.
Personality:
Her previous experiences has left Mist cold and sad. She searches for the light that is peace from violence though she knows it it an impossible wish. She has allowed herself to become one with nature to escape the sadness from the loss of her comrade.
At first sight, Mist might come off as being dangerous and by all means, she is dangerous. Very dangerous. But she loathes violence with a passion. It may seem that the only answer is violence, but this is a test. Mist may provoke, but she actually wants a peaceful resolution. And once this is realized, she will begin to warm up to a person.
Perhaps she is complex, but to some, she is as easy to read as a book. She comes off cold and cruel, but this is merely a mask. She is sad and tired. She wants to make friends and settle down, but she fears what would happen should she remain too long. Will past events repeat themselves? Will violence meet her or one of her acquaintances? This is what keeps Mist moving.
In a past life, she must have loved books. She enjoys reading. And for that, she is quite knowledgeable. She loves legends and magickal theories. Books detailing the many uses of herbs and spells. A good book is always a wise choice to appease Mist. Heck, even distract her. If she is not in the middle of battle, she will immediately divert her attention to any book brought to her knowledge.
In the right mood, Mist can even be mischievous. This seems to be a trait she picked up from one of her previous comrades. Since she can alter the properties of the moisture, she has been caught changing the appearance of ones drinks. Imagine drinking cider but then watching as it reached your mouth it turned to pink lemonade! It still tastes like cider, but it's opaque pink! She will also on occasion change the colour of your shirt. Her favorite colour seems to be pink - but only when pranking men. And after the fact, you will find a small satisfied smile playing across her lips. As though she has received praise in her minds eye.
Background/History:
Mist previously traveled with comrades in arms against a powerful wizard bent on destroying the walls between dimensions and causing the destruction of multiple worlds. Though they defeated the Wizard (Purely by luck), they found the worlds continued to fall apart. Ad they desperately fought through dungeon after dungeon in attempt to find and stabilize the pillars of their world, one of her comrades fell in battle. She and her surviving comrades discovered then that this woman working with them was from another world and was the reason the worlds continued to fall apart. With her death, the fault between the two was finally able to close and their worlds saved.
Her previous companions were: Soryuu the Wizard (Famous for his Prestidigitation Spell with which formed a small cult of pink shirt wearing spell throwers); Xili'qk the Archer (A cowardly ladies man who wasn't foolish enough to put the moves on Mist); Shaq, a Basketball playing Sorcerer from another world; Mr. C, a Cactus Monk with a love of trees; Kenokai a thief allied with Soryuu who was no Robin Hood; a woman known only as the Pure Witch (Who was the one who was eventually killed); Power Drill a powerful farmer with no personality; and finally Neil a reformed pirate who dual wielded cutlasses. Oh, and Maxamillion Hooves, Neil's warhorse suffering from severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
She fondly talks about them often in conversation.
Desires:
After the sadness of losing her comrade, she seeks peace. Perhaps she wants to bring her comrade back? No. She knows she cannot have that. Would she rather reunite with her old comrades and travel the world protecting the peace? Well, perhaps that would be her greatest desire. But another impossible wish. For now, she flees from the violent world she lives in. She seeks a peaceful world where she can live in sadness and in peace.
Extras:
This character is originally from an old Dungeons and Dragons campaign. I simply redesigned her, gave her more of a personality and highlighted her signature spell - Murderous Mist.
While I note that Mist is not her original name, it is not necessary for her to have one. She is Mist in both name and personification. This was also her name in my campaign.
If you have any questions about her or need more information about the campaign, please don't hesitate to ask. I was the Dungeon Master so I know all.
I think she would be most comfortable moving into a surrounding forest (Since she was previous a Druid) so perhaps she will wander to or around the town and set up shop. Obviously, her source of income would be from selling medicines.
